Is arm liposuction right for me?

You may be a good candidate if:

  • ✓You are close to a stable weight but carry fullness at the back of the upper arm
  • ✓Your arms feel out of proportion with the rest of your body, or sleeves feel tight
  • ✓You have lipoedema and your arms are heavy, tender or out of proportion
  • ✓You have reasonable skin quality, are medically fit and have realistic expectations

How the procedure works

1

Consultation

Dr Anthony examines your arms, assesses skin quality and confirms you are suitable.

2

Treatment

Power-assisted lipo loosens the fat, which is then gently removed through tiny incisions to create a smooth line from armpit to elbow.

3

Recovery

You go home the same day in a compression sleeve, with scheduled follow-up appointments.

Arms can be treated alongside the armpit area, or combined with QuantumRF skin tightening when the skin needs extra support. Most patients return to light daily activities within two to three days, and the final shape is visible at around 12 weeks as swelling settles.

Recovery after arm liposuction

Arm liposuction is usually done under local anaesthetic as a day case at Langham Hospital. You walk out of the hospital the same day wearing a compression sleeve, and most people describe the arms as tight and bruised rather than painful.

  • Days 1 to 3: keep the arms gently moving and avoid lifting anything heavy. Some leakage of tinted fluid from the tiny entry points is normal.
  • Week 1: most patients return to desk work within a few days to a week. Reaching overhead can feel stiff at first.
  • Weeks 2 to 6: the compression sleeve is worn for around four to six weeks. Light exercise returns first, with upper body weights reintroduced gradually.
  • Weeks 6 to 12: the new arm contour becomes clearer and the skin continues to settle. The final shape is usually judged at around three months.

Wearing the sleeve as advised, staying hydrated and keeping the arms moving all help swelling settle evenly. Dr Anthony reviews you after surgery and again as the result matures. If you are unsure whether fat or loose skin is the main concern, the consultation will make that clear before you decide.

Risks worth understanding

All liposuction carries risk, even in a hospital setting. The most common effects are bruising, swelling and temporary numbness. Less common problems include contour irregularity, seroma, infection, prolonged swelling in the forearm and, rarely, blood clots. Because the skin of the inner arm is thin, a careful, even approach matters more than the amount removed.

Arm liposuction removes fat but cannot remove large amounts of hanging skin, and it works best when the skin still has some elasticity. Some patients treat the upper back or bra line at the same time for a smoother silhouette; see VASER liposuction and our price list. Consultation fees are fixed and are not deducted from treatment prices.

Frequently asked questions

Can arm fat be removed with diet and exercise?

Upper arm fat is often one of the last areas to shrink, and in lipoedema it does not respond to weight loss at all. Toning builds the muscle underneath but does not remove the fat layer. Liposuction removes the fat cells directly.

Will the fat come back after arm liposuction?

Fat cells that are removed do not return. Remaining fat cells can still enlarge with significant weight gain, so a stable weight helps keep the result.

Will VASER tighten loose skin on my arms?

VASER is gentler on the tissues than traditional liposuction, which helps the skin contract, and many patients add QuantumRF or Renuvion for extra tightening. If there is a large amount of hanging skin, a surgical arm lift may be more suitable, and Dr Anthony will tell you honestly at consultation.

Are there visible scars after arm liposuction?

The entry points are only a few millimetres long and are usually placed near the elbow or in the armpit crease, where they fade well over the following months.
