A defined waist from every angle, not just from the front.
VASER liposuction for the flanks and back targets love handles, the roll above the waistband and fat along the bra line. Every procedure is planned and performed personally by Dr Edwin Anthony at Langham Hospital, 77 Hallam Street, Marylebone.
Is flank and back liposuction right for me?
You may be a good candidate if:
- ✓You have love handles that have not shifted with diet and exercise
- ✓Clothes feel tight around the waistband or bra line
- ✓You are at or near a stable weight with reasonable skin quality
- ✓You are medically fit and have realistic expectations
The flanks are one of the most requested areas, often treated with the abdomen or alongside gynaecomastia treatment for a sharper, more athletic torso.
The flanks and lower back are commonly combined with the abdomen to refine the curve of the waist and the transition into the hips.
How the procedure works
Consultation
Dr Anthony assesses your fat distribution and skin quality and plans your treatment.
Treatment
Ultrasound energy loosens the fat, which is gently removed through tiny incisions while the waist curve is sculpted.
Recovery
You go home the same day in a compression garment, with scheduled follow up appointments.
The flanks are a core part of our VASER 360 torso treatment, which reshapes the abdomen, flanks and lower back together. Most patients return to light daily activities within two to three days, and the final shape is visible at around 12 weeks as swelling settles.

Recovery after flank and back liposuction
Flank and back liposuction is usually done as a day case at Langham Hospital, so you go home the same day in a compression garment. Most patients describe the first few days as feeling bruised and stiff rather than painful, and simple pain relief is usually enough.
- Days 1 to 3: short walks around the house, plenty of fluids, and some leakage of tinted fluid from the tiny entry points, which is normal.
- Week 1: most people return to desk work within about a week. Sitting for long periods can feel tight across the lower back at first.
- Weeks 2 to 6: the garment is worn for around four to six weeks. Gentle exercise returns first, with harder training built up from about week four as advised.
- Weeks 6 to 12: swelling settles steadily. The waistline is usually easy to judge at around 12 weeks, with small refinements for several months after that.
Lymphatic drainage massage is often recommended in the early weeks to help swelling settle and keep the skin smooth. Dr Anthony reviews you after surgery and again as the result matures.
Risks worth understanding
All liposuction carries risk, even when it is done carefully in a hospital. The most common issues are bruising, swelling and temporary numbness, which usually settle over weeks. Less common problems include seroma (a fluid collection that may need draining), contour irregularity, infection, skin changes and, rarely, blood clots. The back has thicker, more fibrous fat than the abdomen, so smooth results depend on even, patient technique rather than removing as much as possible.
Liposuction does not treat weight gain or visceral fat inside the abdomen, and it does not tighten loose skin on its own. If your skin is lax, Dr Anthony may suggest combining treatment with QuantumRF, as in Quantum Vaser Lipo. Full prices are on our price list. Consultation fees are fixed and are not deducted from treatment prices.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between flank and back liposuction?
The flanks are the sides of the waist, often called love handles. Back liposuction treats the upper back and bra line. Many patients benefit from treating both so the torso looks balanced.
Can flank liposuction be combined with the abdomen?
Yes, and this is one of the most common combinations. Treating the abdomen, flanks and lower back together is the basis of VASER 360 and gives a more natural waistline.
Will the fat come back?
Fat cells that are removed do not return. Keeping a stable weight helps maintain the result, as remaining fat cells can still enlarge.
Is flank liposuction suitable for men?
Yes. Flanks are one of the most requested areas for men, often alongside the abdomen or gynaecomastia treatment.
How much does flank liposuction cost?
VASER liposuction starts from £2,800 for one area, with finance available. See our prices page for full details. You will receive a written quote after consultation.
