Written and medically reviewed by Dr Edwin Anthony, Lead Clinician, Contoura Medical (GMC 4776646) · Last updated 13 October 2026

Prices at Contoura Medical are guide prices. Your personal quote from Dr Edwin Anthony, confirmed in writing after consultation at Langham Hospital, Marylebone, sets out the procedure, any theatre fees, IV sedation and tests, and the correct VAT treatment.

How to read the price list

The prices listed above are starting points for a typical case. The final figure depends on how many areas are treated, how long the procedure takes, the anaesthetic you need and the equipment used. Each line also carries a VAT label:

  • VAT incl: the price already includes VAT.
  • + VAT: VAT at the standard rate is added to the figure shown.
  • VAT exempt (0%): no VAT is charged, because the treatment is medical care.
  • Add-on: the price of an extra area when treated in the same session as a first area.

What your written quote covers

After your consultation you receive a written quote so there are no surprises on the day. It lists each item separately.

  • The procedure itself, performed personally by Dr Edwin Anthony
  • Hospital theatre fees, which apply to surgical procedures performed in theatre at Langham Hospital
  • IV sedation given by an anaesthetist, where your procedure needs it
  • Pre-operative tests where required, such as MRSA screening and routine blood tests
  • Any add-on areas or combined treatments, such as QuantumRF alongside Vaser 4D Lipo
  • Post-operative review appointments

Compression garments are essential after liposuction. Your quote states whether garments are included or bought separately, so please check this line. Additional care that is only sometimes needed, such as an ultrasound-guided seroma aspiration, is priced separately on the list.

VAT on medical and cosmetic treatment

Under HMRC's VAT Notice 701/57, medical care from a registered health professional is exempt from VAT when its main purpose is to protect, maintain or restore the patient's health. HMRC states that services carried out purely for cosmetic reasons are standard rated. The standard VAT rate is 20%, and has been since 4 January 2011, when it rose from 17.5%.

Type of treatment Examples Usual VAT treatment
Surgery for a medical condition Lipoedema liposuction, gynaecomastia correction, keloid and scar revision Exempt
Anaesthetic and medical tests IV sedation, pre-op blood tests Exempt
Cosmetic body contouring Vaser Lipo, Vaser 4D Lipo, Vaser Hi-Def, Micro Lipo Standard rated, 20%
Cosmetic skin tightening and fat grafting QuantumRF, Thermage FLX, BodyTite Turbo, micro fat grafting Standard rated, 20%

VAT status follows the clinical purpose of your treatment, not your preference. Dr Anthony assesses and documents this at consultation, and your quote shows the VAT treatment that applies.

Consultation fees

  • Video consultation with the doctor: £85
  • In-clinic consultation with the doctor: £125
  • Advanced in-clinic consultation with ultrasound: £295, useful when fat thickness, skin quality or lipoedema staging affects the plan

Fees are paid when you book. They cover the doctor's time, examination and written plan, which is why they are charged separately from treatment.

Paying for treatment and finance

  1. Accept your written quote once you have had time to consider it.
  2. Reserve a theatre date. Your quote explains any deposit and when the balance is due before the procedure.
  3. If you prefer to spread the cost, apply for finance through Chrysalis Finance. Borrowing is subject to status, and you should only borrow what you can comfortably repay.

Comparing prices with other clinics

Price is only one part of the decision. The NHS advises checking that the surgeon is on the GMC register and the hospital is registered with the Care Quality Commission. When comparing quotes, check who performs the procedure, whether theatre and sedation fees are included, and what aftercare covers. The NHS also advises avoiding strenuous activity for 10 to 12 weeks after liposuction, so plan time away from sport and heavy work too.

At Contoura Medical, Dr Edwin Anthony (GMC 4776646) performs every procedure, with over 1,500 VASER procedures and 14 years of dedicated VASER practice. Regulated services are provided under Langham Hospital's CQC registration.

Frequently asked questions

Are the prices on the list final?

No. They are guide prices for a typical case. Your final price depends on the number of areas, the time needed, the anaesthetic and any combined treatment. Dr Edwin Anthony confirms the full price in writing after your consultation, with theatre fees, IV sedation and tests itemised, so you know the total before booking.

Why are some treatments VAT exempt and others not?

HMRC treats medical care by a registered health professional as VAT exempt when its main purpose is to protect or restore health. Procedures done purely for cosmetic reasons are standard rated at 20%. So lipoedema and gynaecomastia surgery are usually exempt, while cosmetic liposuction and skin tightening carry VAT. Your quote shows which applies.

Can I choose to have my procedure treated as VAT exempt?

No. VAT status depends on the clinical purpose of the treatment, not on patient choice. If you have a diagnosed condition such as lipoedema, Dr Anthony assesses and records this at consultation. If a procedure is mainly to change appearance, HMRC rules mean VAT at the standard rate applies.

Are hospital theatre fees included?

Surgical procedures performed in theatre at Langham Hospital carry a theatre fee in addition to the procedure price. It is itemised in your written quote, alongside IV sedation where needed. Smaller procedures under local anaesthetic may not need theatre time, and your quote makes clear exactly which fees apply.

How much is IV sedation?

IV sedation is priced by how long it is needed, and both bands are shown on the price list. It is given by an anaesthetist and is VAT exempt. Many procedures, including Micro Lipo and Vaser Lipo, are done under local anaesthetic alone, while Vaser 4D Lipo usually uses IV sedation.

Is the consultation fee taken off the treatment price?

No. Consultation fees cover the doctor's time, examination and written treatment plan, and they are not credited against a procedure. A video consultation costs £85, an in-clinic consultation £125 and an advanced in-clinic consultation with ultrasound £295. This keeps the consultation independent of any decision to go ahead.

Do I need pre-operative tests?

Many surgical patients do. Typical tests are MRSA swabs from the nose and groin, a full blood count, and kidney function and salt blood tests. They are priced on the list and are VAT exempt. If you have recent results from your GP, bring them, and Dr Anthony will tell you what is needed.

Can I pay in instalments?

Finance is available through Chrysalis Finance, subject to status. You can see the options on our finance page and discuss them with the team after your consultation. Please borrow only what you can comfortably afford to repay, and take time to decide before signing any credit agreement.

Why does an extra area cost less?

When a second area is treated in the same session, some of the set-up, theatre time and aftercare is shared. That is why add-on areas are priced lower than a first area. Treating many areas at once is not always safer or better, so Dr Anthony may suggest staging larger plans.

Who performs the procedure I am paying for?

Dr Edwin Anthony, Lead Clinician at Contoura Medical, GMC 4776646, personally performs every procedure. He has carried out over 1,500 VASER procedures across 14 years of dedicated VASER practice. Procedures take place at Langham Hospital, Marylebone, and regulated services are provided under the hospital's CQC registration.

  • Add-on Areas: Prices listed as “Addon” are supplementary costs when performed alongside a primary procedure (e.g., Vaser 4D).

  • Individual Quotes: This list is a guide. Your final, personalised quote will be provided after your detailed consultation with the Doctor, taking into account the complexity, time, and specific equipment required for your anatomy and goals.
