VASER liposuction for the knees removes stubborn fat from the inner knee and just above the kneecap for a slimmer, straighter leg line. Dr Edwin Anthony performs every procedure personally at Langham Hospital, Marylebone, London.
Smoother, slimmer knees that finally match the rest of your legs.
VASER liposuction for the knees removes the stubborn pocket of fat on the inner knee, one of the areas that responds least to diet and exercise. Every procedure is planned and performed personally by Dr Edwin Anthony at Langham Hospital, 77 Hallam Street, Marylebone.
Is knee liposuction right for me?
You may be a good candidate if:
- ✓You are close to a stable weight but have a fullness on the inner knee
- ✓Your legs look blocky or shapeless where the thigh meets the calf
- ✓You have lipoedema and your knees are painful or out of proportion
- ✓You are medically fit and have realistic expectations
How the procedure works
Consultation
Dr Anthony examines your legs, discusses your goals and confirms you are suitable.
Treatment
Ultrasound energy loosens the fat, which is then gently removed through tiny incisions to create a smooth line from thigh to calf.
Recovery
You go home the same day in a compression garment, with scheduled follow up appointments.
Knees are often treated alongside the inner thighs, calves or ankles so the whole leg is shaped as one natural line. Most patients return to light daily activities within two to three days, and the final shape is visible at around 12 weeks as swelling settles.

Recovery after knee liposuction
Knee liposuction is a small procedure, usually done under local anaesthetic as a day case at Langham Hospital. You walk out of the hospital the same day wearing a compression garment, and most people find the knees feel tight and bruised rather than painful.
- Days 1 to 3: regular short walks help circulation. Some leakage of tinted fluid from the tiny entry points is normal.
- Week 1: most patients return to desk work within a few days to a week. Stairs and kneeling can feel stiff at first.
- Weeks 2 to 6: compression is worn for around four to six weeks. Swelling around the knees and ankles can linger, so gentle exercise is reintroduced gradually.
- Weeks 6 to 12: the new leg line becomes clearer. The knee is one of the slower areas to settle, and the final shape is usually judged at around three months.
Keeping your legs moving, staying hydrated and wearing the garment as advised all help swelling settle evenly. Dr Anthony reviews you after surgery and again as the result matures. If you are unsure whether the knees or the thighs are the real concern, an advanced consultation with ultrasound can measure fat thickness in each area before you decide.
Risks worth understanding
All liposuction carries risk, even in a hospital setting. The most common effects are bruising, swelling and temporary numbness. Less common problems include contour irregularity, seroma, infection, prolonged swelling around the ankles and, rarely, blood clots. Because the inner knee has little fat and thin skin, a conservative, even approach matters more than the amount removed.
Knee liposuction will not change the shape of the bones or tighten very loose skin, and it works best when the thighs and calves are in proportion. Some patients treat the inner thighs at the same time for a smoother line; see VASER liposuction and our price list. Consultation fees are fixed and are not deducted from treatment prices.
Frequently asked questions
Can knee fat be removed with diet and exercise?
Inner knee fat is one of the most diet resistant areas of the body, and in lipoedema it does not respond to weight loss at all. Liposuction removes the fat cells directly.
Will the fat come back after knee liposuction?
Fat cells that are removed do not return. Remaining fat cells can still enlarge with significant weight gain, so a stable weight helps keep the result.
Is knee liposuction painful?
The area is numbed with local anaesthetic, so most patients feel pressure rather than pain during treatment. Afterwards the knees feel bruised and tender for a few days.
Can knees be treated with other areas?
Yes. Knees are frequently treated with the inner thighs, calves or ankles, and this is common in lipoedema treatment. Dr Anthony will advise how many areas can be safely treated in one session.
How much does VASER liposuction for the knees cost?
VASER liposuction starts from £2,800 for one area, with finance available. See our prices page for full details. You will receive a written quote after consultation.
