Biostimulators are injectable treatments that restore lost support and help your skin build its own collagen. At Orovenza in Marylebone, London, we offer Radiesse®, Sculptra®, Lenisna and Juvelook as gentle collagen stimulators, with the option of adding NCTF® for skin quality, and the Neauvia hybrid filler for patients who would like a largely dissolvable option.
What biostimulators are and how they work
With age, we lose bone density, fat pads shrink and the skin makes less collagen. The face can look flatter, more tired and less firm. Biostimulators work in two ways: some give a degree of immediate support, and all of them prompt your own cells to build new collagen gradually over the following weeks and months. The result is a subtle, natural-looking improvement rather than an obviously "filled" look.
Every product is chosen after a face-to-face assessment. Not every patient needs every product, and many need only one.
The treatments we offer
Radiesse®
Radiesse is made of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres in a smooth gel. It gives immediate structural lift in areas such as the cheeks, jawline and temples, and the microspheres then act as a scaffold that stimulates new collagen. It can also be diluted and spread more thinly to improve skin firmness.
Sculptra®
Sculptra is made of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). It does not give an instant result. Instead, it gradually stimulates collagen over several months, so volume and firmness build slowly. It is usually given as a short course of treatments a few weeks apart.
Lenisna
Lenisna is a poly-D,L-lactic acid (PDLLA) collagen stimulator. It is designed to improve skin firmness, texture and mild volume loss gradually, and is usually given as a course.
Juvelook
Juvelook combines PDLLA with hyaluronic acid. It is used to improve skin texture, fine crêpiness and gentle volume loss, with results developing over the following months.
NCTF® add-on
NCTF is a skin revitalising solution containing hyaluronic acid with vitamins, amino acids and other nutrients. It can be added to a biostimulator plan to support hydration, radiance and overall skin quality.
Neauvia hybrid filler: a largely dissolvable option
The Neauvia range combines a hyaluronic acid base with a small amount of calcium hydroxylapatite, so it gives immediate volume while also supporting collagen. Because its hyaluronic acid base can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed, it suits patients who would like a largely reversible option. The small calcium component itself cannot be dissolved.
Cannula technique for added safety
Where possible, Nurse Rashmi Mehta places products with a blunt-tipped cannula rather than a sharp needle. A cannula reduces the chance of damaging a blood vessel or placing product inside one, which is one of the most important risks with any injectable. It does not remove this risk completely, so we also treat in a hospital setting with emergency protocols in place. A fine needle is still used where precision placement requires it.

Your treatment journey at Orovenza
Consultation. Rashmi assesses your face at rest and in movement, along with your medical history and previous treatments.
Plan. Together you agree which areas to treat and which product, or combination, suits you best, including whether to add NCTF.
Treatment day. The skin is cleansed and numbed. Products are placed with a cannula where possible, or a fine needle where needed, usually within 30 to 45 minutes.
Aftercare. You go home with written aftercare advice and a number to call if you have concerns.
Review. We see you again to check your progress and discuss whether a further session would help. Collagen stimulators often work best as a course.
Results and how long they last
Radiesse and Neauvia give some visible support straight away. With Sculptra, Lenisna and Juvelook, improvement builds gradually over two to three months as new collagen forms. How long results last depends on the product, the number of sessions and your own skin and lifestyle.
Save Face reports that calcium hydroxylapatite results typically last 12 to 18 months or longer, while hyaluronic acid-based fillers usually last 6 to 18 months.
A 2023 review in Aesthetic Surgery Journal cites one study in which calcium hydroxylapatite increased total collagen by around 160% compared with untreated controls.
In a long-term study of calcium hydroxylapatite in the nasolabial folds, 40% of treated folds were still rated improved at least 30 months after the last treatment.
Recovery and aftercare
Mild swelling, tenderness and redness are common for 2 to 5 days.
Bruising can occur and usually fades within 7 to 10 days. Cannula technique often means less bruising.
Avoid make-up for 12 hours and strenuous exercise, saunas and alcohol for 48 hours.
After some biostimulators, particularly Sculptra, you may be asked to massage the area for several days. Follow the instructions you are given.
Contact us urgently if you notice increasing pain, colour change or blanching of the skin.
Safety, side effects and who should avoid it
Common side effects are swelling, bruising, tenderness and temporary lumpiness.
Rarer risks include infection, nodules and, very rarely, a blocked blood vessel. We use a cannula where possible and treat in a medical setting with emergency protocols.
We do not use Radiesse or Sculptra in the lips or directly under the eyes. Lips are treated separately with hyaluronic acid filler.
In the UK, dermal fillers and biostimulators are not prescription-only, so anyone can legally buy and inject them. Choosing a medically led clinic matters.
The NHS recommends checking practitioners on an accredited register such as the JCCP or Save Face.
Cosmetic fillers cannot legally be given to under 18s in England.
Treatment is not suitable in pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active skin infection, or with an allergy to any ingredient. Some autoimmune and bleeding conditions need careful review first.

What affects the cost of biostimulator treatment?
Cost depends on which product suits you, how many areas are treated, how much product is needed and how many sessions are recommended. Collagen stimulators such as Sculptra, Lenisna and Juvelook are often given as a course. Your practitioner confirms your personal treatment cost at consultation, after a proper assessment. Does it hurt?
Most people feel pressure and mild discomfort rather than pain. The skin is numbed beforehand, many products contain local anaesthetic, and using a cannula where possible means fewer entry points.
How long does swelling and bruising last?

Can the treatment be reversed?
Radiesse, Sculptra, Lenisna and Juvelook cannot be dissolved. The Neauvia hybrid filler has a hyaluronic acid base that can be largely dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed, although its small calcium component cannot. If reversibility matters to you, we will discuss Neauvia first.
What is NCTF and do I need it?
NCTF is a skin revitalising solution containing hyaluronic acid, vitamins and amino acids. It is an optional add-on to support hydration and skin quality alongside a biostimulator plan. Not everyone needs it.
Will I look overfilled?
Overfilling is avoided by careful assessment and conservative treatment. Because most biostimulators work gradually, change is subtle and builds over time.
Who should not have biostimulator treatment?
